Are you looking for a way to engage students while developing their intercultural capacities through meaningful online exchange across borders?
COIL might be for you!
COIL (Collaborative Online Intercultural Learning) involves educators in different countries or regions collaborating to create online interactions and exchange for students. There are many variations of COIL projects from shared course assignments with a discipline to interdisciplinary problem solving.
In 2018 CELT invited Greg Tuke, Fullbright Fellow and professor at the University of Washington – Bothel to visit TRU and help a group of 18 faculty members consider doing a COIL project. In this introductory session, Kyra and Catharine will introduce you to the main concepts of COIL and answer questions you may have. In the follow up sessions, you will have an opportunity to hear from faculty and students who have participated in COIL, learn more about the opportunities and challenges of designing an online collaboration, and discuss the best platforms to support secure online exchanges.
