TRU continues to become increasingly culturally diverse. In the decade from 2009-2019 TRU’s international student population quadrupled (IPE, 2019). New and first-generation Canadians comprise a growing population of students. Moreover, educators are called to action by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission to engage in “Building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy and mutual respect” (Call 63iii); which will “require skills based training in intercultural competency, conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racism” (Calls 24,28,57, 92iii) This professional development opportunity seeks to provide faculty with foundations in intercultural theory, inclusive pedagogy, and learning outcome design—useful for any course delivery mode— that will support intercultural understanding and help prepare learners to be effective professionals and citizens in increasingly complex and diverse global and local contexts. TRU has offered Interculturalizing the Curriculum since 2008 for over 100 faculty across the disciplines. Read what past participants have said here.

Please note: This course involves approximately 6-8 hours of work per week.
