Reconciliation and decolonization are important components of Indigenization. In this workshop we will challenge the dominance of Western thought related to education and bring Indigenous and decolonized thought processes to the forefront. Reconciliation involves creating new relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

This workshop will focus on:

Deconstruction: exposing political, moral, and theoretical inadequacies of colonialism and culturalism in education.

Reconstruction: transforming education and unleashing the potential of students in a knowledge-rich society.

Indigenization: embedding Indigenous ideas, concepts, and practices into curricula, including a discussion of when and where it is appropriate with respect and input in partnership with Indigenous peoples.
