**CANCELLED** CELTalk: Franklin Sayre - Lessons Learned (and taught) in the first year of running the TRU Library Makerspace

Online

This CELTalk has been cancelled and will be rescheduled.

Presenter:  Franklin Sayre

This session will be livestreamed and recorded.

The TRU Library Makerspace is an exciting new experiential learning space that provides equitable access to creative and innovative technologies so that students, staff, and faculty can experiment, innovate, and play. This session will provide an overview of what we have learned during our first year of operations, with a focus on how students and faculty are using the space. Student belonging and diversity will also be addressed. After this overview there will be time for an open discussion about the role of making, design, and technology in education. After the session participants are invited to tour the Makerspace with the Makerspace Librarian.

Franklin Sayre is the Makerspace Librarian and Co-Chair of the Librarians’ Department at TRU and is responsible for overseeing the Makerspace, a job he primarily views as “Making Space” for students, staff, and faculty to experiment with ideas and technologies. Before moving to Tk’emlúps (Kamloops) in 2019 Frankin was a health sciences librarian at the University of Minnesota (UMN) and the University of British Columbia (UBC). Franklin can often be found hiking, snowshoeing, and running in the forests, hills, and grasslands surrounding TRU.
