Have you ever thought of doing (or doing more) international service and community development? Would you like to spend time shoulder to shoulder helping others while learning and appreciating another’s culture and way of life? This fall Christina Cederlof from the Education and Skills Training (ESTR) program went to Peru to give support to a school in the outskirts of Lima with Developing World Connections (DWC). Come see what going on a DWC service trip is like.  Joy Demsey with DWC will also share how you can get involved with established and sustainable projects in Nepal, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Kenya, Cambodia, India, Philippines, and/or Peru.

Please note: This session will be recorded.

Presenter Bios:

Christina Cederlof teaches in the Education and Skills Training (ESTR) program at TRU.  In November 2022, Christina had the opportunity to go on a Developing World Connections (DWC) trip to Peru.  She was part of a team that has a long standing relationship with an elementary school in the outskirts of Lima.  With sustainability as the goal, the DWC team was able to support the local goals that were led by senior high school students as well as the school/agency to improve the school infrastructure, nutrition initiatives and the community surrounding the school.

Joy Demsey works as a trip coordinator for Developing World Connections. She received her Master’s degree in ESL, from Northern Arizona University, leading her abroad to teach for over 6 years in Moldova, Japan and Kyrgyzstan. She has been able to travel to experience many countries in the world including: Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, Turkey, India, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, Cuba, Philippines and Honduras. She finds local immersion traveling experiences that connect her with children across the world brings the most heartfelt smiles, gratitude and hope for our world’s future.
