Time: 11:00 am–1:30pm

  • 11:00–12:30pm: Streamed lightning talks from University of Calgary exploring innovative ideas in Open Education. A catered lunch buffet will be provided during the talks.
  • 12:30–1:30pm: What Open Ed might look like in the Future? A thought-provoking talk by Dave Cormier, Director of Curriculum Services at TRU Open Learning and author of ‘Learning in a time of Abundance: the community is the curriculum‘. This 45-minute session will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A.

The meaning of the word ‘open’ in education is, well, open. Whether as a way of describing licensing, pedagogy or social justice, openness may be more important to education and learning now than ever. But how can we talk about open so that people understand? This presentation will offer a simple model for thinking about openness that will hopefully feel inclusive to people who identify with the word open but could also help with our decision making about how to work openly in our schools.

This event is supported by BCcampus, TRU Open Press, TRU Library, and Learning Technology & Innovation.
