While there are countless options for assessing student learning, exams and quizzes remain a standard method in many disciplines. If your disciplediscipline commonly uses exams and you’ve ever wondered whether your exams are effective indicators of learning, this workshop may help. In this session, we’ll explore the following questions:

  • How many exam questions should I include?

  • What kinds of questions should I include?

  • Should I be assessing recall, critical thinking, problem solving, synthesis skills, or something else?

  • How much time should I allocate to each question?

  • Should my exam be open or closed book?

  • When is a two-stage or group exam the best option?

This will be an active workshop, so please bring one (or more) of your exams to the session.
