SUMMARY:Learning from the Land - Indigenous Land Based Teaching and Learning
DESCRIPTION:Land Based | Indigenous Languages | Local Knowledge | Hand on 
 Experiences |Oral Knowledge | Interactive | Relationality\n\nThis 4-day\, 
 3-night Land Based Immersion Workshop will introduce pre-service to the 
 faculty and staff members of TRU to develop an in-depth understanding of 
 land-based learning that are based on respect\, responsibility\, 
 reciprocity\, and relationality and how these differ from Western views of 
 teaching and learning. \n\nLand-based learning provides benefits such as 
 building community connectedness and resilience\, improving mental\, 
 physical\, emotional\, and spiritual wellness\, advancing reconciliation by 
 decolonizing educational institutions\, and improving understanding of 
 land\, territory\, and language of Indigenous peoples. Participants will 
 learn about the significance of the land\, including its uses and history\, 
 contribute to generating an awareness and understanding for protecting and 
 caring for the land and the value of the land to Indigenous People’s. 
 \n\nWhy an Indigenous Land Based Project?\n\n\n	Global need for all 
 community members to learn about the state of the planet\n	Faculty/Staff 
 personally develop/foster a connection to the land and its 
 teachings\n	Faculty/Staff gain an awareness of the Indigenous cultures 
 \n	Create culturally respectful and inclusive learning spaces that are 
 hands on and engaging\n	Honors TRC\n	Provides up-to-date content and 
 curriculum\n	Supports the revitalization process of Indigenous 
 Languages\n\n\nComponents of Land Based Education\n\n\n	Outdoor Teaching 
 and Learning\n	Indigenous Local Culture (languages\, songs\, oral stories\, 
 traditional practices\, plant knowledge\, etc.\,)\n	Inclusionary 
 (ecological\, Indigenous) teaching practices\n	Experiential land-based
